Contemporary Home with Traditional Furniture

How do you update a contemporary home with traditional furnishings? You reupholster everything and choose your fabrics carefully.

This project was a challenge for a number a reasons. The client wanted to use all existing furniture. The home was very contemporary while the furniture was quite traditional. And the client had a strong sense of what she wanted and didn't want which made it triply challenging.

All requirements were addressed with limited use of pattern and color and making the most of the 180 degree views.

Kitchen Envy... a Tour of Contemporary and Traditional Kitchens

With cooler days ahead, we'll be spending more time indoors. Maybe it's time to try some of those fall recipes you've been saving up, the ones with ingredients like wild rice, butternut squash, black beans, pumpkin, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms or roasted red bell peppers.

Classic kitchen styles stay current and fresh looking longer. This one by Thomas Jayne is timeless and elegant. The glass door cabinets allow the china, crystal and serving pieces to be enjoyed on a daily basis.

This contemporary kitchen is all about the wood and steel. It's another kitchen that will date well through the years. In other words it will stay in style a long time.

This modern kitchen by Toton Sanchez has super clean lines. Kitchens like this are easier to keep clean but the draw back is any spot or clutter stands out. The lasting style of this kitchen will be enjoyed a long time.

Temple St. Clair Carr designed this galley kitchen. Lots of stainless steel, white paint and glass visually expand the space and keep it from being stuffy. Ice cream scoop stools similar to this are available at Design Within Reach.
